Fifth grade students from Charles C. Bell Elementary were treated to an extraordinary adventure at the LEAF Global Arts Center, nestled in the vibrant heart of Downtown Asheville. Stepping into the hallowed halls of the building once known as the Club Del Cardo, they were immediately captivated by tales of its bygone era as a bustling music club where African American artists were celebrated and compensated for their talents.

Splitting into groups, the students embarked on an immersive journey towards global citizenship. Engaging in hands-on activities, they explored the realms of music, dance, drawing, and acting, each activity offering a unique window into diverse cultures and traditions.

As they delved deeper into their experiences, the students found themselves transported to different corners of the globe, all while uncovering the rich historical tapestry of Eagle Street. This visit not only broadened their horizons but also deepened their appreciation for the world’s vast cultural diversity and heritage.

“Our trip to the LEAF Global Arts Center was a great opportunity for the kids to see the diversity in arts,” said fifth grade teacher Olga Luchinina. “It gave them a chance to realize that art is not just drawing pictures or painting, art is everywhere around us. Art is in music, in your voice, in your body, in your movements. We had three sessions with different artists and the programs were customized for us,” she said.
