Title I Family Engagement Policy

 C.C. Bell Elementary School
Title I Family Engagement Policy

The teachers and staff at C.C. Bell Elementary School believe that the education of children is a cooperative effort between parents and the school.  Parents are their child's first teachers and involvement by parents improves the educational achievement of their children.

The Title I staff strive to involve parents in activities throughout the school year.  A minimum of 1% of Title I funds are spent on parent involvement activities.  During the September Open House is the Annual Title I MeetingThe purpose of this meeting is to inform parents of the programs and activities provided with Title I funds, as well as their right to be involved in the planning and implementation of the program.  We make sure that all the information related to school and parent programs is communicated in a format and language that parents can understand.  This same information is provided in written form to all Title I parents.

At the beginning of school, a "Student-Parent-Teacher Compact" that outlines how parents, school staff and students will share responsibility for improved student achievement is reviewed and signed for each student in the school.  The school's Parent Involvement Policy and School-Home Compact is reviewed annually by the Parent Advisory Council/PTO Board.  Parents are also included on the School Improvement Team to help in the planning of the School Improvement Plan.  Discussion of the Title I program and the School Parental Involvement Policy is a part of this team's responsibility.  To help guide these plans, Title I parents are surveyed in April/May of each year as to the effectiveness of the year's parent involvement activities to help plan for the next school year. A parent representative from Bell will serve on the Buncombe County Title I Parent Advisory Council to share and disseminate information.

During the  Open House in September parents are informed of grade level Standards, academic assessments used to measure student progress and proficiency levels students are expected to meet. The Bell staff will strive to involve parents in activities throughout the school year. Parents will be made aware of these events via; Alert Now phone messages, school newsletters, the school website and take home flyers.

Parents will always be offered the opportunity to confer with their child’s teacher.  Parent/teacher conferences will be held early in the school year and on a continuing basis as needed.
