The
art program at Bell Elementary is aligned with both the National
Standards for Art Education and the NC Visual Curriculum. All levels are
taught through Discipline Based Art Education including the four major
components:
Art History
Art Production
Aesthetics
Art Criticism
Our
goal with our art program is to help students develop intuition,
sensitivity, reasoning skills, imagination and dexterity. Art classes at
Bell Elementary help students to perceive and think in new ways and to
learn problem recognition and problem solving solutions. Communicating
effectively, learning to adapt and respect others' opinions and art,
making creative decisions for new situations and team work with
collaboration of ideas are all part of the experience in our art class.
Most
grade levels receive 2 hours of art classes each month and we try to do
as much as possible with that precious time without compromising the
process of creativity. Each spring we participate in the art show at the
Asheville Mall. While the time is not extensive that our students
receive art instruction, it is imperative for building bridges between
verbal and non-verbal skills and logical and emotional development.
Please feel free to call or come visit. We would love to have you
volunteer with us. We can always use additional supplies. The front
office has a list of our needed materials.
