5th Grade Students Create Daily News Broadcast
Students use Bell Youtube Channel to Share Information
At the start of each school day, a dedicated team of seven Fifth grade students, known as the News Crew, comes to the Media Center to present a live morning announcement broadcast school-wide. They are using a professional program, Wirecast to create the show and it is broadcast from the Bell Youtube Channel into each classroom and to others who subscribe. The program allows students to select different backgrounds and show them via a Green Screen as they present, just like the professional news stations. Students rotate positions on the crew so everyone has a chance to learn how to run the camera, be an anchor, producer and support with teleprompter cue cards. They also create videos of interest to share weekly, such as the Meet our New Teachers segment or a Geography Challenge to help students learn about new places. It is a student run enrichment activity that gives them responsibility and reflects what it takes to create the news in the real world. The new technology was provided by the Bell PTO in the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you PTO for all you do!
